Re: Early 2019 Releases...

I've got the new Kadinja now, and it's quite great. Not really groundbreaking, but one of the best bands in straight up djent since they don't fall into the trap of samey-sounding mud that still plagues some of those bands. https://kadinja.bandcamp.com/album/super-90 And the new Shokran is way bette...

The new Soilwork is killer. Very eagerly awaiting that Darkwater and Lance King's new one. Also we get new Devin Townsend in March, which should be great.

Re: All-genre top 22 of the year

Rivers of Nihil, _Where Owls Know My Name_ Technical death metal so often falls into that samey-sounding trap (“I heard Theory in Practice do this 20 years ago”). Rivers of Nihil doesn’t completely avoid the trap, but they do in part, and there are some real moments of sublimity here. Interesting s...

Anyone else buy into this? I got mine yesterday and just got into it today...wow it sounds incredible. And the new parts are something else.

I just need to figure out where I'm going to hang my new Electric Castle.

It's true, I'm guilty of loving djent quite a lot. There's something about the combination of heavy and wonky that it comes with that just tickles my brain to pieces. Give me all the skull-crushing polyrhythms, please! Hopefully you find something new you find worth buying! Thanks for taking the tim...

Finally got around to checking some of these...I had somehow missed that Voices From the Fuselage released an album this year, and it sounds promising. Xenoverse I think was on the house music at the fest this year? Anyway, that's really good sounding too.

Distorted Harmony - A Way Out A very solid album through and through. Just good heavy prog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKrrbwhdEsk Absolutely one of my disappointments of the year. I felt this way about most of the tracks on the Being album vs the EP from a few years ago. The EP versions weren't so fiddled with and fussed over, and they were better for it.

I see a big difference here. Warkings is a serious attempt at jumping on the popularity of the masked/power metal genre. They are pushing it, touring, etc. I didn't care for it, but I don't think the label views this as a joke. Cash grab, sure. The other is just Christopher getting really drunk and...
