Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

I have been listening to some of the other Threshold albums and it now saddens me a bit that a song like The Rubicon probably won't ever sound the same. If any other Threshold singer can pull that off, it is Glynn (Mac didn't have the range or presence for it), but I still think the immense power an...

Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

That new song is fine, and Glynn sounds good, but Threshold has really become bland lately. It's not just that they're playing the same sound, but the songs themselves are interchangeable. I can't get excited when I can hardly tell one song from the next. I don't disagree. You'd think the band woul...

Anubis Gate - Covered in Black (September 1, 2017)

Their darkest, proggiest and maybe heaviest album ever. With two three-part suites among 10 songs. http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=135976 Knowing what Kim's been through recently (i.e. why PPUSA got canceled) I don't doubt that the emotional content of this disc will be spot-...

The djent killed it for me. The first album of Disperse is pure awesomeness. But then the modern djent came and took the beauty away... Glenn.....thanks for posting those...... I need to track down the ones that have been released...... I should have spoken to the Voyager in my initial post...... Of the others, the only one I actually listened to in depth is the Bare Infinity, which I don't think is as good as the previous one........

Anthriel - Transcendence (first impressions)

So unlike many other official releases nowadays, this disc came out on a Thursday. And here we are with Anthriel's first record in seven years. The biggest promise from the band was that it would be darker and heavier. It very much is so, and colder and more technically oriented rather than the gene...

Re: Tetrafusion - Dreaming of Sleep

One of my all time favorites is the Power of Omens debut, and it definitely has some challenges. I'll check this out! I rarely pull out that disc because it is so dense and difficult to appreciate. Rooms of Anguish I found to be more digestible even if it went even more ridiculously over the top on...

Also they use a lot of inviting jazz arrangements and, I believe, major keys which make music sound brighter instead of darker.

I was wondering what that spoken word was.

I thought the whole album followed the concept of the title song, actually.

It's an incredibly dark and disturbing album so I really don't listen to it. However, it still won my AOTY 2014 award.

Re: Bjorn Riis - Forever Comes to an End .......

I enjoyed this disc, although it really doesn't sound all that different from Airbag to me. This kind of moody and laid-back prog-rock appeals to me nowadays as long as I am in the mood for it. If you aren't then this won't be for you.

Re: Tetrafusion - Dreaming of Sleep

It can be dense at times so those of you who can't bear that side of prog, stear clear. But those of you who like their prog to be challenging, this is definitely for you. With this said, I find Tetrafusion's music very unintimidating and pleasant to listen to despite its density and difficult musi...

Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

It only says Glynn is the rhythm guitarist live. But I feel he will do that in studio too. If he does, at least they keep the double-guitar attack that is essential to Threshold. And also, knowing Morgan, the material will acquire the requisite grit and intensity to back up his voice. I am actually ...

Re: Abydos - a retrospective appreciation

I found this record extremely diverse, more so than Vanden Plas ever have been, and very proggy at the same time. It's pretty known that the experiments done on this record had an influence on the forthcoming VP releases - the first of them being Christ 0 which is a flawless masterpiece. A song like...

Re: Pendragon drummer Scott Higham out of band .....

Craig Blundell wasn't able to juggle Pendragon and Steven Wilson, so they recruited Jan-Vincent for a tour and then they mutually decided to keep him permanently. Craig's drumming on the last Pendragon record was astounding. They've never been big on the drumwork but have kept it solid and tasteful....

Anthriel - Transcendence (June 15, 2017)

This Finnish band's debut record "The Pathway" seems to still be unknown and underrated. And it's been seven years between that and this upcoming new album, so perhaps Anthriel will remain obscure. http://lionmusic.com/cd/Anthriel2.html They, however, shouldn't, as The Pathway was a stunni...

I liked all of their last four albums but Folklore is my favorite of them, hitting #11 on my 2016 lists.

So knowing this is basically part two of Folklore, but with added experimentation and collaboration, is an easy recipe for challenging the top ten of 2017 at least.

Then again, why let him do the vocals for the new album and then fire him? Maybe West and Groom weren't happy with his performance and decided to bring Glynn back. Tough decision but then again West had worked with Glynn in League of Lights and knows that Glynn is still as good as he was back in 19...

We know Damian had already finished recording vocals, so the implication is that Glynn will re-do the vocals.

I really hope they didn't let Damian record the whole thing, and then fire him and never use any of it.

I did think this was a decent album but their primeval age does show itself.
