Each set in one sentence: ROSS THE BOSS: Very interesting for fans, but left me rather cold, although Mike LePond rocks the bass guitar. I feel similarly. Next year is going to be the "diet" ProgPower, because I'm not going to want to take time to eat. That's the beauty of the BBQ vendor..... You can bolt just as a band is leaving the stage, and beat the line and be back inside in plenty of time. The burrito vendor once ha...

What is the French-Canadian translation of "typographical error." :) If we translate word by word: "erreur typographique" which is ok to say but I have never said that this way in my life... Most common way to say it would be "faute de frappe". Thanks for the info. Hey...

Images of Eden - Soulrise (new release)

This US band has been pretty obscure for a while, but the video for "Shield Me" seemed to ruffle a few feathers in the metal world and even with this board's members. Their fourth album just came out and so far it seems to be their breakthrough, as it's gaining them a good deal more web pr...

I really wasn't digging the pre-released songs, and then eventually decided to give the whole album a go while working at my desk. It turned out to be quite fantastic. LEAH - The Quest (October 5, 2018)

I know there are some fans of this lady in the PP crowd as that's how I met one guy in particular a couple years ago, wearing her shirt. In the past she's worked with luminaries like Timo Somers, Sander Zoer and Barend Courbois (Blind Guardian) comprising her band. But now she's roped in Chen Balbus...

I am absolutely in love with this disc. Tom proves that he is exactly what this band needed after the departure of Ray and his bigger, more soulful "gospel" style delivery not only really fits the emotion of the music, but sounds very suitable to the uplifting portions of the music - somet...

Pretty different as you'd expect. The heavy section at about 3 minutes in is killer, although the somewhat technical solo is going to be hard to acclimate to. You can definitely feel Grudzien isn't there anymore and time will tell whether the world can overlook that.

I think the first two songs on Handmade Cities are some of the best jazz-fusion prog you'll ever hear, and a good deal of the remaining album is of a similar standard. Sunhead is a very good follow-up, and despite what some people say is still plenty hefty enough for me. "Kind" is my favor...

Everyone seems to confuse this band with the Danish Anubis Gate who sound totally different! A Tower of Silence is among PA's highest ranked neo-prog albums ever. I really enjoyed that disc and their more recent one The Second Hand is also fantastic. You may know the guitarist as Douglas Skene of He...

I've listened to this disc twice and I'm still trying to really access much of it. The shorter songs are really good but the longer songs don't feel as compelling as something like Delusion Rain is, at first glance. The vocalist is, as always, the star of the album.

Distorted Harmony - A Way Out (first impressions)

I would retroactively call Chain Reaction one of the top albums of 2014 and Distorted Harmony's performance at PPUSA 2017 was outstanding. However, I am not altogether thrilled with this disc. The songs are more compact and heavier and have more of a djent flavor to them than before, and people I kn...

I was there at the festival when they played it. It's actually a full-song version of what will be the album intro that lasts about one minute, so I wouldn't get too upset about this being overlong.

There are a couple of tunes on this disc that break the mold for him. "False Paradise" even without the extra version's surprise is a rather extreme-leaning song and a couple others have a proggy flair. Otherwise it's business mostly as usual but a great disc.

Which is okay with me. I did like the heaviness of the last album, but I do find myself preferring lighter fare nowadays and I love Subsignal's melodic side anyway.
