2023
This year for me personally has been a complete roller coaster. Luckily things have turned out amazing for me in the past few months and I couldn't be happier. So I swore off doing top 10s years ago because I just found I didn't understand them anymore. I liked different discs for different reasons ...

99% of the time is during a commute or otherwise out of home activity (shopping, waiting in line, etc).
Sometimes if I have a bit of weed I'll sit in a comfy chair and just absorb it, but that is also heavily mood dependent. Also, all my music listening is via streaming.

The only way I can describe this band is if the singer from Elvenking decided to cover the mid-paced outtakes of Falconer with Beyond Twilight as his backing band.

Jordan is 64, and certainly doing better than I will be at that age if I even live that long. I agree this album sounds very good. I like the added heaviness/riffage on this one, and I also enjoy Jordan being a bit more subtle - using more hammonds and pads rather than the whimsy he usually does. I ...

Okay dudes, we are all adults here. I won't preface everything I say with a big fat "In my personal opinion and I am also not an expert" because that stuff is always implied. Didn't I say "to my taste" in my original post? You guys have been posting for how many years now? No music is objectively "b...

Anyone know anything about 7Days? They put out Weight of the World in 2006 and I found that on the internet exactly once, loved it, and never heard whisper of them after that. They put out a second album called Into Forever. They just rereleased and remixed/remastered both albums this year, so mayb...

Aside from Protest the Hero (who I was already familiar with and I do like), the rest are good examples of vocal styles I don't like. It's just overly nasal for my taste. I have listened to many, many bands in this genre, if only one song or two. If it's not grabbing me, vocals or otherwise I move o...

Of course. You guys move forward while I look back. Been revisiting a lot of clean tech releases of yesteryear. I have learned to adore John Arch as well and have been enjoying those releases as well as other bands inspired by them. Defo looking forward to the Terra Odium release. Over the past year...

I think that's because Redemption is already pretty derivative. They've taken influence from many areas. There could be someone out there who has done their darndest to make music exactly like Redemption, but pretty much any reviewer will still say "Band X sounds like a mix of Dream Theater, Fates W...

Scott did you check out my latest post? Alter and Lovewar were good shouts from that era. I'm a huge fan of the Oracle album you mentioned. I'm always on the hunt for stuff I've not heard. What I sometimes do is load some search criteria into metal archives and do some lucky dip.

Discs I liked this year
It has not been a good year. It just hasn't. And the way I view music suffered. But, I still like to put together a list of things I legit enjoyed through the year, but I don't think any of them were beyond 7/10. Maybe next year when I revist these that will change. So, that said, I hope you guys fi...

I'm finally getting around to lots of stuff, most notably Rush! I've always been a Rush fan but really kind of casually. Subdivisions is my favourite song by them and also the first I ever heard by then when I was like...13? So I've been exploring that era (the synth period) quite intently and lovin...

There just aren't that many discs I liked this year as opposed to years previous. There is still time tho and I usually get a few from Harvester's list. I don't know if my tastes are changing, my listening habits are changing, or this year has been just too depressive for me in general.
