Re: Carisma / 1825 - revisited.

Great post, and a great album! Good shout out on the Ricochet album as well...... My recollection was that it had more of a Superior vibe to it (Cincinnati Road rules!). Have you ever had problems before taking discs in the car? The only ones I am more sensitive about are the digi-packs that I canno...

Re: Best of 2017 - Mandatory Posting

Totally. It's another case of where a band picked a singer who is good at one thing, just not what they were chosen for. Anette does this poppier stuff amazingly well. I keep saying her phenomenal performances everywhere else shows that Tuomas is no genius. If he was, he either wouldn't have picked...

Re: My top 10 of 2017

I like the new Secret Sphere, but didn't love it. Surprised to see that coming in as a #1 on a list! Michele sounds great as always, but his vocals are strong enough on their own.... Let alone when put really far forward in the mix like they are here. He simply overpowers the album for me.

Best of 2017 - Mandatory Posting

Here goes with the obligatory best of 2017 list..... Not sure if this will be top 10, 15, 20 or what yet..... #1 - Daydream XI "Circus of the Tattered and Torn" - Going from an unknown commodity filling a PP vacancy to the best album of the year..... Not too shabby. This album hits all the...

I've yet to see a Neal Morse show that WASN'T exceptional, and this is no exception to that rule. Snow is not my favorite SB disc by any means, but the live performance is still stunning. Also, they perform the new 25+ minute song Falling for Forever as an encore!

I also just ordered ‘ Speaking to Stones’ Elements which he sings on and also features the great Mark Zonder on drums. This came out in 2012 I believe. Haven’t heard anything of it yet but I’m out to get anything Anders sings on.

Forgot about that one! GREAT album!

Re: Sons Of Apollo (Portnoy's New Band)

This one is a bit hit and miss. The opening track (God of the Sun) is KILLER, and is one of my favorite songs of the year. It's much more neo-classical than anything proggy. The other longer song (Labyrinth) is also great, but maybe sounds a bit too much like a Haken "1985" ripoff with the...

If you haven't already, make sure to check out his back catagloue. He's worked with several bands, and they've ALL been very good. Lions Share (early), Twilight, and Section A are all worth digging up.

I'm not even through the first song and it's blowing me away. Everyone here can play their asses off. Dream Theater worship only works if you can BRING IT, and these guys totally can. One other CD of note would be Symphony X - Iconoclast. I passed when it was released and now I can't stop listening to it. I think it could be my favorite from them. This!!!! Adding to the praise for this album. As everyone keeps saying.... It's doom, but it's.... NOT. Definitely has a few chuggy-chuggy slower sections, but even during those parts Andy's vocals keep it from feeling overly doomy. What stood out to me as much as Andy's stellar singing were the lead guitar ...

Jorn Lande soundalike for SURE!!!! It's got more of a straightforward rock approach than Ark did, but I can certainly hear a similarity in the chorus.....

It's amazing when something like this comes along how it reminds you just how few bands/albums are actually fun these days, in the rock and metal scenes. I'm not saying you need to be fun to be good (my current #1 for the year isn't fun in the slightest), but it does seem to be a vast minority. I t...

Made it through the rest of the disc on the drive home. The songwriting on the album is fine, but the tones they used and the way they mixed it makes it sound like proggy lounge music.... I am not getting the love for this disc.... AT ALL. It feels very disjointed, very clunky, very light in parts and very djenty in others..... The dialogue is atrocious and unnecessary.

I dunno. I'm trying to get through it again right now, but this is not working for me one bit right now.

Is it sad that I get more excited about David Gilmour live releases than I do for a new studio effort? His live albums are all must-own material, as they carry the true magic of Pink Floyd. His new solo material is still just a shell of that.
