Re: TDW & Dreamwalkers Inc

Nice find. I may be the only one who hears this, but it reminds me of a more modern, heavier Sieges Even. Looks like this is actually a 3-disc set (2 audio discs plus a live DVD). Discs are separated into a "dark" and "light" disc, each featuring a song at 22+ minutes. Can't wait...

Re: I really miss After Forever

The only other band that I know of, that has released a B&B disc in the last few years, is a band called KOWAI. The disc is called Dissonance. It's very well done, and even though it doesn't come close to the grandiose of AF or Epica, it's up there in quality......... There is a lock band out o...

Re: I really miss After Forever

I can't get through a whole Epica album- too damn long and they all sound the same to me now. Anybody heard any good Beauty and Beast stuff lately or has it all gone away? Just in the mood for it- I guess I could just spin "Decipher" AGAIN. Or maybe some old Tristania or Trail of Tears. H...

+1

I picked up the reissue box set they put out via Kickstarter, and was impressed at how good the back catalgoue was also. Very excited to hear new material.

I am cautiously curious about this one..... I did listen to the RIhanna cover, but I didn't know the original song. Regardless, it was pretty enjoyable.

And I concede putting Once tops in their discography is not as crazy as, say, putting Century Child there. Now THEM'S fightin' words!!! What's wrong with "Century Child"??? I'd honestly have to go back and listen to the whole catalogue again to even try to name my single favorite, but I k...

Re: So is anyone else in a musical rut this year besides me ?

First off, shame on ME for forgetting the new Need album, which is probably my album of the year so far..... Neck and neck with Ayreon, and if it weren't for the goofy dialogue track on Need, they'd win hands down. **** I agree with you .... the Ayreon is probably the best thing to come out this yea...

Re: So is anyone else in a musical rut this year besides me ?

Lots of GOOD things, but very few GREAT things so far. Probably my favorite has been the new Ayreon, but even with that I feel like if that's the best the year has to offer, it's been a pretty slow year. Still and all, new Leprous around the corner, hopefully the new Threshold, new Kingcrow.... Stro...

It's not THAT bad..... Sadly, though, it's also not that good. "Havoc" and "Nine" both have moments of greatness, but sadly far fewer than what I expect from a band as brilliant as CM.

***Gonna Get Close To You is way out of place to me ......always was. It killed the momentum of the "sci-fi" songs and feel of the disc...... I'm not sure why they opted to do this song instead of writing another killer song, but this song is the only song to me that is out of place ........

I don't think that anything he has done has equaled the brilliance of first 3 discs, but then most bands fall into that category as well - but with Arjen, I think we expect greatness out of him each and every time, and I don't think it's fair to put him at a higher standard than we do others ..... ...

Here's some self promotion. I think the new Until Rain "Inure" is exciting and frankly I don't understand the lack of discussion about it. Perhaps there is too much music coming out too fast and everyone is developing musical ADD. Give a listen: https://lasersedge.bandcamp.com/album/inure...

The Dark Tower - based off the Steven King novel, it looked bad ass until they used the word "gun slinger" which is he who hunts the devil. Good series of books, but this is definitely not "scary" by any means. It's much more of a cross-over genre piece (sci-fi, western, action,...

Abydos was a great disc for sure, and I thought it got a fair amount of love around these parts when it first came out. New Jorn track is quite good, but lighter than the 2 Ferrymen songs. He'll surely have heavier stuff on the album.

Doesn't need to be HEAVIER, it needs to be CATCHIER. Again, it's not bad, it's just..... There. I expect more from that line-up.
