Re: Pyramaze - Contingent (April 28, 2017)

Pyramaze is a band that, for me, has always been dominated by their vocalist. The first two albums were pure Lance King, then came a dose of Matt Barlow, and the last album reminded me strongly of Urban Breed era Tad Morose (a void which I LOVE seeing filled), but somehow it always feels like a diff...

This will be an easy blind-buy for me. They have never matched the greatness of "Return to Heaven Denied", but every album has been solid in its own way.

Isn't Seventh Wonder due for a release this year?

.....sigh......

I'll believe it when I see it. Cannot come soon enough, as the two tracks on the live album just served as a teaser.

Re: Edenbridge / The Great Momentum .......

Alas, I wish I had read this and your Knight Area reviews BEFORE my last Laser's Edge order..... I was ordering the two original Need discs (kudos to Ken for landing those), and needed a third to round out the order so tagged in the Edenbridge album. My hopes are never too high for them, but based o...

I've held off on ordering either, as I have the originals on both and never really felt any need to have them retooled. Had they included even a single bonus track on them, I would have bought both instantly. Alas, the instrumental mixes don't do anything for me. "Aquarius" has always been...

Dude, Saturday may 27. Westfield, MI I think it's at the Token Lounge. Should be an amazing show. Four hour drive from Cincinnati but totally worth it! If all is good with the social director at home, we may have to make the trip up also. I have in-laws up there so easy excuse to go up for the week...

Re: Need - Hegaiamas: A Song for Freedom...

Listening to this again today, and this is STUNNINGLY good stuff. Oravam was solid, but this is another level. No exaggeration: this is Wolverine / Kingcrow level good. Will be stunned if this isn't top three by end of the year. Right now is my disc of the year, but with only two albums so far this ...

By the way, I just saw them last week here live and while I thought they were really good, it felt like Daniel was holding back vocally. It made me think he's sitting in a very comfortable zone on this disc. He's got an amazing voice but he's not using its full potential. Any chance he legitimately...

OK, with all the love this album is (deservedly) getting, why has no one yet mentioned the god-awful 5 minute dialogue "song" IOTA? I love the rest of this album, but this song is a totally obnoxious sidebar that has no place on here.

It's actually to me a good disk....it's not classic era...but best one since Be As far as judging this on its own... At times It's good, at times it's bad, overall I guess I would say it's ok, but ok doesn't cut it when they were once brilliant. I think I sit somewhere between these two. There are ...

That was the first Brainstorm disc I ever heard, and while it is definitely one of their best, I still prefer Soul Temptation. Re: New Ayreon video

I've never had an Ayreon album, just thought it would be too high concept and not enough melodies.

With the exception on "Theory of Everything", this is DEFINITELY not the case. Ayreon is almost always packed with melodies.

Avoiding listening to anything until I have the whole album in hand. Arjen has rarely let me down, and even his "down" moments are higher than many bands "high" moments. "Theory of Everything" didn't work for me as I am not a fan of the whole one disjointed single song ...

OK, I'm digging this one big time..... Three linked songs are all really good. I hear David Readman in the vocals more than Terrance Holler, but I would be happy with EITHER of those names on anything!

Great recommendation!

The weird thing about this one is that it doesn't even feel lenghty. Try songs like "Down will come baby" or "Secret's Safe" or "I" or Moonlight Bride". It's impressive... Agreed. It's a very QUICK 80 minutes, even with the longer songs. The diversity across the e...

"Reasons" sounds like they are basically saying "You wanted HEAVIER? Fine. Here you go. Heavier." and that's about it. OK song, but hopefully the rest of the album isn't as grungey, for lack of a better term.

How good is the new Almah? Snippets were impressive. Sounds really melodic. VERY, almost to the point of having more of a pop sensibility rather than a power metal one. Here's a prime example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJS4zzNa_Lo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58mHkbKT0iY

Those lists fill up as the year go by. Also, the great new bands don't appear on those. I'm also hoping for a new Anathema and I'm sure a few great surprises. Very true, but coming off a year in which it seemed like every single great band put out a new album, it's going to naturally be tough to fo...

....new release schedule is looking depressingly quiet. Interested in the new PoS, and will probably sample Firewind and Xandria, but nothing else of note on here. What else is due in 2017, as it looks like a very S-L-O-W start.
