Re: Ostura: Stop what you are doing and listen now

....and here's the line that kills me.

NOTE – Universal are not releasing this on CD as it’s a dying format. This is a shocking decision considering they have a potential ‘Ostura’ of an album in their possession. Criminal. Here’s hoping the band can offer up something via a Pledge campaign.

Re: Rush Concerts

I can remember mine much more vividly, as I only saw them three times. I was definitely NOT a Rush fan through most of high school, as my exposure to them was basically via the radio songs (Tom Sawyer, Freewill, the new single at the time Show Don't Tell) and I was not a fan of ANY of those songs. S...

Re: Lyra's Legacy: For all you old fucks that miss crunch & keys

Good stuff. Singer is a little smoother than Zak, to my ears..... Maybe closer to Michael Andersson?

Anywho.... I'd like it a lot more if it was on CD instead of just digital. (Another sign of the "old fuck" syndrome.)

Re: Status Minor - Three Faces of Antoine...

Status Minor - One spin through only so far, but I am REALLY enjoying this one. It appeals completely to my old school prog sensibilities..... This definitely hails from the early 2000s era keyboard driven, DT-esque prog metal. It has a TOUCH more of a modern sound with a fairly bass-heavy sound at ...

Good list. I'm seeing several names on here I meant to check out, but never got around to. You seem to have a similar taste on the hard rock / melodic rock side to mine, so plenty of good fodder for me to try..... Thanks!

*Ten should call themselves Four now cause they aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be.

Gothica is much better; they could be an Eight instead of Ten on this one.

Has anyone seen Allegaeon's cover of Subdivisions?

I'm highly critical of any Rush cover...this one is incredible

I'm with you..... Amazon and Ken are 99% of my purchases, but I'm not quitting on discs any time soon. It does concern me, though, to see multiple major retailers bowing out.

I get it, I just don't have to LIKE it.

haven't liked much extreme vocals other that allegaeon recently, but these guys are really melodic and fast.

Funny you mention Allegaeon, as I just stumbled on them recently and am REALLY impressed. Their guitar work is AMAZING. I've got all four albums, but only listened to the first so far.....

OK, I don't want to come out after only one rotation and say this is better than Mabool...... But... I'm gonna do it anyway. This is better than Mabool. It's not as heavy (overall) as Mabool was, but it's heavy enough. It doesn't have as many growlie vocals as Mabool did, but it has enough. It maybe...

Excellent feedback, and somehow that was sort of what I expected with both discs.....

Soul Doubt sounds like a perfect "filler" disc for a future order, and Excalibur is getting crossed off the list. Thanks!

Re: Starting off the new year with Excalibur and Soul Doubt.....

Any verdict yet on either release? Excalibur seems like it will be a little light in the loafers, and maybe a bit TOO theatrical..... Soul Doubt I tried a couple songs, but neither really engaged me. However, it sounds like it should be right up my alley.

The most heart-wrenching of all to me is "Tears for a Father" from Seventh Wonder. Simply a beautiful track..... Not necessarily as personal or emotionally connected as the aforementioned "Walk" by Pantera, but certainly a close second. :)

Totally. It's another case of where a band picked a singer who is good at one thing, just not what they were chosen for. Anette does this poppier stuff amazingly well. I keep saying her phenomenal performances everywhere else shows that Tuomas is no genius. If he was, he either wouldn't have picked...

I like the new Secret Sphere, but didn't love it. Surprised to see that coming in as a #1 on a list! Michele sounds great as always, but his vocals are strong enough on their own.... Let alone when put really far forward in the mix like they are here. He simply overpowers the album for me.

I've yet to see a Neal Morse show that WASN'T exceptional, and this is no exception to that rule. Snow is not my favorite SB disc by any means, but the live performance is still stunning. Also, they perform the new 25+ minute song Falling for Forever as an encore!

This one is a bit hit and miss. The opening track (God of the Sun) is KILLER, and is one of my favorite songs of the year. It's much more neo-classical than anything proggy. The other longer song (Labyrinth) is also great, but maybe sounds a bit too much like a Haken "1985" ripoff with the...

Adding to the praise for this album. As everyone keeps saying.... It's doom, but it's.... NOT. Definitely has a few chuggy-chuggy slower sections, but even during those parts Andy's vocals keep it from feeling overly doomy. What stood out to me as much as Andy's stellar singing were the lead guitar ...
