Re: Within Temptation - Resist

Safe to say this has been the direction they've been headed in for years. The last two albums definitely tipped the scales more in the pop direction already. So long as Sharon is singing it, I'm in...... But the excitement wanes a bit more with each release further from the "Mother Earth" ...

Yes, it was weird how little talk there was about a new Royal Hunt disc. I've enjoyed the previous discs since DC re-joined, but for some reason this one didn't do anything for me. Perhaps a case of music overload. I should go back to this one sometime. I actually forgot that even came out this yea...

8) Lords of Black “Icons of the New Day” – An album that fills my need for old school rock / metal. This one straddles the line nicely between the two, with the latter half of the album pulling in a bit of an Iron Maiden sound perhaps? The bonus disc is also a great addition, including covers of so...

I'm with you for most of this list, albeit in very different order. (See my other post!) The two that are not on my radar at all are Mystery (I have NEVER listened to them! Perhaps that needs to change?) and Paradox Twin (sampled a couple of songs, loved the tones they used and the mix but wasn't pu...

So here goes..... Usually I do the tiered system, but figured I'd go with actual rankings this year.... Subject to change at any given moment of course. 11) Hekz “Invicta” – Sure, the vocalist gets some grief but for this style of music he somehow makes it work. Back when I first heard Threshold I h...

Talent has nothing to do with what I was trying to say. Yeah, they can play the heck out of their instruments, but so can Yngwie, and his music sucks. What I'm saying is there's no one thing about their music I've yet heard that makes me say "THAT is Haken". Dream Theater, Fates Warning, ...

Can't wait to read the top ten; I want to respond to this album by album, as I have thoughts on almost every single one, but would rather wait and see the rationale behind the top ten before certifying you for a loony bin. Really?

It sounds painfully generic, and paint-by-numbers DT to me, and I'm the guy who put ADTOE #1 that year.

I'm fine with paint-by-numbers DT. Do what you do and do it well. This song fits perfectly. Sonically, this is a mix of "Train of Thought" and ADTOE.

21. Lost in Thought- Renascence: This was one of the bigger surprises of the year. I truly enjoyed the debut, but wasn't expecting them to come back this strong after a 7 year hiatus. All of Dream Theater's "Falling into Infinity" demos are better than the final versions..... Some of the songs are really quite different (You Not Me most notably). Plus, there were multiple demos recorded that didn't make the final cut, but were stronger than some of the songs that did (R...

I'm kind of bummed that Feather Moves isn't on the EP, since it's such a good tune (and because I only ordered the vinyl version of the EP thinking it would include everything).

THIS.

How the heck do you only put out an EP, and leave one of the songs off it for a singles B-side???? Not cool.

Three good choices, no doubt about it. On just about any other year, all three of these would be right at the top of my list as well, but 2018 has been an absolute blockbuster for quality. Same here..... Crue was a gateway band before getting into heavier bands and eventually prog and power metal. My parents listened to country music while I was growing up, so instead I turned to pop music like Prince and Duran Duran. Later in the 80's that transitioned into hair metal, before discove...
