Re: New Seventh Wonder tune

Not getting all the negative feedback on this one...... I have a major league sinus infection right now, and both ears are pretty badly plugged up, but I can still hear the bass on here. Granted, it is not near the front of the mix like it typically is on an SW album, but nor is it so invisible as t...

Re: Mercury Rising - Upon Deaf Ears

Both albums were solid, but "Building Rome" tended to have more of the modern / heavier sound that it seems several of the prog bands of that era were aiming for..... Lots of folks weren't impressed by it, but I thought it was still pretty damn good. "Zeroes and Ones" was reminis...

Same here. "Hymns" was better than the last one, IMHO, but both were definitely strong discs. I know they had some delays with it due to equipment being stolen, if I recall correctly.....?

Re: The Forgotten Heroes of Prog Metal Thread

CD Galileo/Nightmare Records (2007) singer is the same guy as Arkhe, guitarist is Gianluca Ferro, music is excellent, singing is ok, but this was a band that could have made some good music. But sadly another One and Done. Funny that you pull this one out! It was just about 1-2 years ago that I stu...

Am I crazy, or does a lot of this sound like Wolverine could have written it? Not crazy at all. They are certainly very similar. I've only gotten to spin this once so far, and that was with family in the car so couldn't exactly focus on it. What I heard was right on par with what I expected. One ra...

Re: The Flower Kings: What album should I try first?

This band is symphonic prog in the style of old Yes, musically and particularly in the positive mood and lyrical content, with some of the quirkiness of Frank Zappa and King Crimson. I have a few albums but haven't really spun them in forever. Banks of Eden was my first and it is excellent. The Sum...

I hear more Angel Dust than anything in them..... Minus the keyboards, unfortunately. I liked the new disc, but not as much as the last one. Of course, I wasn't caught up in the PP ecstasy either though......

Solid band, delivering some classic melodic metal. No frills, and none needed.

OK, so..... Eating my words a bit on this Barren Earth. Definitely not what I had expected.... Need to explore them a bit more, but FOR SURE hearing the Opeth/Amorphis mix.

That being said, now it's back to "Carnival of Rust" one more time.

Re: ProgPower USA XX

I had to grin at that. I consider their latest, "A Complex of Cages," an album of the year candidate. It's a great mix of old Opeth and Amorphis. Btw, I'm not sure if you have any tolerance for growls at all, but the vocals are about a 70/30 split throughout the disc in favor of the clean...

If prog fans heard this song without knowing who it was or any preconceived notions, I'd bet my left nut that many would welcome it with open arms as an amazing unknown prog band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMt5ZEmyfsA Great tune..... That's the beauty of the BBQ vendor..... You can bolt just as a band is leaving the stage, and beat the line and be back inside in plenty of time.

Holter - I'll Die for You

Just saw this pop up on the front of YouTube. Trond Holter, who did the "Swing of Death" album with Jorn a couple years back, has morphed this into a second album but with Nils K Rue of Pagan's Mind on vocals.

If you want to talk about a weak point in Astronoid's music, I'd say it's the vocals. At first I thought they were female, and I didn't mind them - but when I discovered they were male, I liked them less. It really shouldn't matter, and I know that, but somehow it does! Good call on this one..... Haven't seen anything on Leverage in many moons now. Are they even still active?

Dino is also a great up-and-comer, and I suspect we'll be seeing him pop up in multiple outfits ala Ronnie pretty soon.
