Re: Entropia is 20 years old?

I'll fight anyone who says that anything else is a better debut album.

Circus Maximus? Possibly?

Personally, as great as Entropia was, I think they only went upwards from there all the way through Remedy Lane.

TDW Dreamwalkers Inc - Love the song I sampled online, so very much looking forward to this. Two 22+ minute tracks plus a DVD! . While this may not be the "Prestige Worldwide of Prog" that their website might make you believe, it is some very good stuff. Lots of different performers on he...

Re: Can we get some Top 5 / Top 10 discs going ?

I will be very surprised if at least 2 of the top 3 below aren't bumped by years end. Ayreon could hang on in the top three, but it's ranking right now is more about lack of great discs this year rather than it being a brilliant album (as good as it is even). 1 - Ayreon "The Source" 2 - Ne...

Re: Can we get some Top 5 / Top 10 discs going ?

Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier (I love bloated, prog Maiden, as long as they aren't repeating choruses) Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events (No Portnoy, no problem. Best balanced DT in the last two decades) Maiden - This album is underwhelming only in that it feels very formulaic, and very ...

Re: Daydream XI / The Circus of the Tattered and Torn......

What I'm hearing is like a cross between Angra / Haken / and modern prog metal ........ I hear Angra all over the place, but I hear (don't gasp) Lynch Mob (Oni Logan) in the vocal dept .... the dude has a bluesy, gritty, soulful if you will voice .... which is superb. I am all over this one...... A...

Re: Leprous - Malina - album review

Very excited for this album, and your review pretty much nailed my expectations for it. Leprous is one of my favorite bands going today, but I do find myself a little disappointed that they have settled into a somewhat predictable groove, which sounds like it will continue on this album. Both Coal a...

Re: Sons Of Apollo (Portnoy's New Band)

I think many still have animosity twards Sherinian for FII (which I actually like more than Scenes).. If anything this could be a nice tasty slab of somewhat musical heavy melodic rock with great vocals Unless they fire Soto and get Yngwie to do the vocals 1 - FII greater than Scenes???? Wow. I'm intrigued, even though I expect nothing groundbreaking or new. Derek is not one of my favorites, but I'm interested to hear what Sheehan and Bumblefoot bring to the table.

I'd rather hear this than Winery Dogs or Metal Allegiance, that's for sure.

The 30 second clips on their web site make this a little tough to call. Definitely hear the Queen influences..... Trying to hop around a bit on YouTube where they have full songs but at 10+ minutes each it's heard to get a good read on this. Will have to check this out more when I have some more time.

Nice find. I may be the only one who hears this, but it reminds me of a more modern, heavier Sieges Even. Looks like this is actually a 3-disc set (2 audio discs plus a live DVD). Discs are separated into a "dark" and "light" disc, each featuring a song at 22+ minutes. Can't wait...

The only other band that I know of, that has released a B&B disc in the last few years, is a band called KOWAI. The disc is called Dissonance. It's very well done, and even though it doesn't come close to the grandiose of AF or Epica, it's up there in quality......... There is a lock band out o...

Lots of GOOD things, but very few GREAT things so far. Probably my favorite has been the new Ayreon, but even with that I feel like if that's the best the year has to offer, it's been a pretty slow year. Still and all, new Leprous around the corner, hopefully the new Threshold, new Kingcrow.... Stro...
