Re: Dream Theater - "Distance Over Time" Album Teaser

Really?

It sounds painfully generic, and paint-by-numbers DT to me, and I'm the guy who put ADTOE #1 that year.

I'm fine with paint-by-numbers DT. Do what you do and do it well. This song fits perfectly. Sonically, this is a mix of "Train of Thought" and ADTOE.

This new song is FANTASTIC. It's everything I want in a Dream Theater song. Better than anything on the last two albums for sure.

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons

100% agree. The bootleg live version I have from the I&W tour is so much better than the studio one.

21. Lost in Thought- Renascence: This was one of the bigger surprises of the year. I truly enjoyed the debut, but wasn't expecting them to come back this strong after a 7 year hiatus. The debut reminded me of the early Circus Maximus with soaring vocals prog. They have toned that down and headed in...

18. Temperance - Of Jupiters And Moons Very catchy symphonic(?) metal. The multiple singer gimmick works well. Sort of a not-quite-as-good The Dark Element. I need to try more of this band's material..... I listened to a couple of songs a few months back and really enjoyed it, but also stumbled on ...

I swear..... This list gets more exotic every single year. Our top ten has a LOT in common, but beyond that..... Lots of stuff to sample, but can't say as I've even heard of much of this.

All of Dream Theater's "Falling into Infinity" demos are better than the final versions..... Some of the songs are really quite different (You Not Me most notably). Plus, there were multiple demos recorded that didn't make the final cut, but were stronger than some of the songs that did (R...

I'm kind of bummed that Feather Moves isn't on the EP, since it's such a good tune (and because I only ordered the vinyl version of the EP thinking it would include everything).

THIS.

How the heck do you only put out an EP, and leave one of the songs off it for a singles B-side???? Not cool.

Solid song. Sounds more like the recent s/t album than "Condition Human", which is fine by me..... Love the lead guitar work on here.

So glad to see 'Ryche "relevant" again.

Three good choices, no doubt about it. On just about any other year, all three of these would be right at the top of my list as well, but 2018 has been an absolute blockbuster for quality. Not going into too much detail, as I really have not figured out how this will settle, but my contenders right ...

I humbly add to this thread Magnitude 9 - Chaos to Control Good call on Mag9! I think they put out three discs total, and all were very solid. I'm a little lukewarm on the "Grand Again" track (I HATE vocal effects, even moreso when singers with such a clean, distinct voice choose to use them), but "Feather" more than makes up for it. I was surprised it was so light, but as you get into it its a perfect Tore/Khan piece t...

Hard to believe they are touring together finally. Don't you guys remember the Fates Warning / Dream Theater / Queensryche tour from back in the early 2000s? Granted, it was square in the middle of the 'Ryche's "ugly" era, but the set list was pretty much similar to the Live Evolution cov...

Same here..... Crue was a gateway band before getting into heavier bands and eventually prog and power metal. One would think they would sell more records (yeah, I really just said that....) by promoting the fact that Serenity's singer is in it, rather than trying to camouflage it.

It's...... Fine...... Nothing special. Not terrible.

The first Crue album is definitely an awesome disc! They had a certain RAW sound that they never again quite managed to hit..... Vince sounded better on this album than at any other point. If not for the much-maligned John Corabi album (which I freakin' LOVE), the debut would be my favorite.....

This band is symphonic prog in the style of old Yes, musically and particularly in the positive mood and lyrical content, with some of the quirkiness of Frank Zappa and King Crimson. I have a few albums but haven't really spun them in forever. Banks of Eden was my first and it is excellent. The Sum...
