Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

That new song is fine, and Glynn sounds good, but Threshold has really become bland lately. It's not just that they're playing the same sound, but the songs themselves are interchangeable. I can't get excited when I can hardly tell one song from the next. I don't disagree. You'd think the band woul...

Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

Double album!

This 10-minute track sure is nice, if not ground-breaking:

Re: I "might" have to go digital soon .... need some ideas.

My wife has largely moved me to digital for music AND books - for as big as my physical music collection is, my library is far larger, and neither works terribly well in a small-ish house. As much as I love physical books, my Kindle is obscenely convenient, and .mp3s from Amazon are of high enough q...

Re: Some discs from the past - the test of time ?

Wow, soooo many good discs mentioned in this thread. There are things mentioned here that I've not listened to for years. I've been so lazy getting my older stuff (the majority of my collection) moved to my phone. I need to fix that asap.

Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

Dead Reckoning > did not care for this We have these threads from time to time where I have to beat the 'PoS's Scarsick is great' drum and I think Dead Reckoning is in that category too. I don't see how anyone - ESPECIALLY a Threshold fan - can listen to DR and go, 'Meh.' Then again, maybe because ...

Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

Glynn Morgan has to re-record all vocals, otherwise it would make no sense... Who knew Threshold would ever have something in common with Quiet Riot (or what's left of them) who are facing the very same situation this year!! It's also a great way to kill interest in the album, for both bands....

Re: Glynn Morgan returns to THRESHOLD!

I've always had the impression that Damian might not be the easiest guy to work with, and he was helping the band out after Mac died. I just can't imagine that stunts like the stripper at PPUSA were all that cool with the rest of the band. I might be wrong - Damian might be a great guy, but I can ve...

SURELY they're not going to re-record the vocals on the new disc. Don't they have a release date soon?

Re: Soen - Lykaia

This is a solid release, but in no way on the level of Blackwater Park imo. BP has far more interesting, and involved song structures with those long, glorious instrumental passages. This one is much more by the numbers in comparison. I think this largely rests at the feet of the guitarist, who is ...

Re: The Neal Morse Band - The Similitude Of A Dream - full review

I'm still playing this disc to death. I find that surprising. Didn't think you were a Neal Morse kinda guy... ***I'm not -- but I love this disc. I can't put my finger on it, because I really don't care for Neal's voice, and normally that would be a deal breaker for me under any circumstances. Some...

Re: Soen - Lykaia

I don't know that this band is ever going to settle into doing 'their own thing'. First disc was heavyily Tool, second was a transition (really liked it, tho), and this third (I've only heard the two songs) is heavily Opeth, which I don't mind, because I wasn't done with heavier Opeth even though Op...

Re: Pain of Salvation - ITPLOD - full review

One dramatic shift is in the guitars - they've gone to a heavier, chunky, more rhythmic sound, so there's not as much variety in the playing and that in itself shifts the sound/tone/mood of the band. Where the band was maybe more spry, jazzy, and nimble in the past, they're now more dark and poundin...

Re: Pain of Salvation - ITPLOD - full review

This disc is not gonna win the disenchanted back, although it IS packed with emotion. Dissonance and odd rhythms are their stock and trade here; this isn't Remedy Lane pt. 2, by any means. Me, I'm still absorbing.

Generally, I prefer studio stuff. Unless it's jazz. Then it's the opposite.

Having said that, I'd really like to have my preference challenged by Pain of Salvation. Wish they'd release a 'real' live disc/DVD...
