Re: Ayreon Universe - The Best Of Live

On a semi-related note, I was listening to some Ayreon yesterday and I submit that it should be international law that Arjen record and mix every album of any consequence for years to come. The guy is just a multi-faceted genius.

We have a new contractor at work whose last name is Jarzombek, so I asked is he was related to Ron or Bobby (he's not) but he knew exactly who Bobby is. Just about fell out of my chair.

Re: Ayreon Universe - The Best Of Live

Just amazing performances throughout this thing. CRAZY good. I told my wife that this show is testament to how many really excellent vocalists there are out there - I mean, this show is limited to singers in a small niche of music, all from Europe, and they KILL. One thing: I like how Arjen says he ...

Re: Conception back with classic line-up!

I haven't been to too many PPUSAs, but those that I have been to have had some *great* performances. Ark was one of those, and I don't think there's anyone that wasn't blown away by Tore. Conception or no, the guy should be doing *something* - he's simply too good to be inactive. Man, now I want to ...

Re: Shadow Gallery / Tyranny - the best ever.

Tyranny is a BEAST. I'll have to spin it up shortly... For my money, I still think that SG's finest moment (or its wildest) is the instrumental breakdown on Legacy's Cliffhanger pt. 2. Kernon's dry mix just makes everything stand out crystal-clear and the band just goes at it like a burlap sack full...

Re: Ayreon Universe - The Best Of Live

Brilliant, beginning to end. Astonishingly good, actually. Kinda blows my mind how big Ayreon is at home; in the U.S. they'd probably play to 100 people on their own. I can quibble with the setlist a bit - especially considering that The Theory of Everything has its fair share of detractors (myself ...

Random Dream Theater thought

Whatever you want to say about When Dream and Day Unite (even if you dig it - I'm 'meh'-ish) I will argue until I'm blue in the face that it and Images & Words are MILES apart. You can certainly hear a pretty darn good new band on WDADU, but can you *imagine* the band sitting on that powder keg ...

I've only spun it once (and at work), but I liked what I heard. A few observations: - This is not Kino 1.5 - you're not gonna get that 300 years after the first disc. It's not as 'poppy' for lack of a better word. - It's also not Lonely Robot pt. 3, so this is probably more of a group effort than it...

Man, this year is killin' it so far. Some of you may know of this mostly instrumental band.
