It's a good thing I don't really hear lyrics - I suspect it's some Ayn Rand-ish bullshit Right...because so many of my lyrics are about that lol  It’s about insecure people being jerks. More importantly, I’m glad you like the tune and Tom’s performance! I hope you like the rest of the CD! I s...

Re: Redemption - Long Night's Journey Into Day (July 27, 2018)

To be honest, I find mid-tempo Evergrey (which is basically ALL Evergrey anymore) tedious. If you put Tom on something that musically beats ass, I'm there in a heartbeat. I dig the song. It's a good thing I don't really hear lyrics - I suspect it's some Ayn Rand-ish bullshit, but I'm not sure. Tom s...

Is some of that heavier than their previous stuff? Is this their version of IQ's Road of Bones? (Keep in mind, I know very little about either band, but I really like Road, and I know Arena makes use of one Mr. John Mitchell. Other than that, I wandering in unknown territory here.)

Man, the crowds in the LaBrie thread and this one are TOUGH. I dunno...if you can't get anything out of 6 Degrees, Train of Thought, or Octavarium...I guess I'd argue that your tastes obviously wandered elsewhere, because it wasn't like there was a drop in quality after Scenes...in fact, they acquit...

Re: So im trying out a pair of Bryston Power Amps and threw on..

Spun up Count in honor of this thread. The first thing that hit me is how tightly the band is integrated here. Mangini is a godly player, but Portnoy really was the heart of the band and his playing, particularly alongside Petrucci, is just hand-in-glove. Those two guys together are just...yeah. Thi...

Rush: musical stuff I'm thankful for...

I had their Exit... concert on BETAMAX. Regardless of the format, it SUCKED. Still does. Randomly picked Time Machine of the shelf tonight (wife out of town, though she loves Rush).

Thank GOD this band hung on long enough to be properly filmed, and multiple times, even.

Life is good.

On a semi-related note, I was listening to some Ayreon yesterday and I submit that it should be international law that Arjen record and mix every album of any consequence for years to come. The guy is just a multi-faceted genius.

Just amazing performances throughout this thing. CRAZY good. Tyranny is a BEAST. I'll have to spin it up shortly... For my money, I still think that SG's finest moment (or its wildest) is the instrumental breakdown on Legacy's Cliffhanger pt. 2. Kernon's dry mix just makes everything stand out crystal-clear and the band just goes at it like a burlap sack full...

Brilliant, beginning to end. Astonishingly good, actually. Kinda blows my mind how big Ayreon is at home; in the U.S. they'd probably play to 100 people on their own. I can quibble with the setlist a bit - especially considering that The Theory of Everything has its fair share of detractors (myself ...

Whatever you want to say about When Dream and Day Unite (even if you dig it - I'm 'meh'-ish) I will argue until I'm blue in the face that it and Images & Words are MILES apart. You can certainly hear a pretty darn good new band on WDADU, but can you *imagine* the band sitting on that powder keg ...
