Re: Steven Wilson - Home Invasion question

It's stupid that this is only bundled with CDs. Seems like a cash grab. I'm a slut, though, so my protestations are hollow.

Steven Wilson - Home Invasion question

Looks like this only comes in two $$$ flavors: DVD/Blu-Ray + 2CD combos. For real? Some sites (ahem) don't even list (I think) the Blu-Ray version. Weird...

Guess what I'm saying is, I gotta spend $30 for something I should get for $15?

Said it before, and I'll say it again: I can marvel/giggle at how obscenely tight a brand is without being the least bit interested in what they're doing.

That doesn't mean they're interesting. https://media.giphy.com/media/l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS/200w.gif Here I'm really talking about Vector, which *someone* urged me to check out. Re: Haken - Vector - my track-by-track review

Very nice album - so glad I bought the version that comes with the instrumental bonus disc as the vocalist by far is this bands downfall ... with a different singer I think I would love them, for now I just like them. This is me. Haken's singer annoys the shit out of me. You won't find a tighter ba...

The music is very nice but the singer has as much personality as all the zebras that weren’t Marty in Madagascar 2 (movie reference for the parents and kids around here) ... his voice leaves me empty - does absolutely nothing for me. I don't mind him. What I DO mind is the garbage lyrics on their f...

This should be mind-blowing.

Watching Tore with Ark at PPUSA all those years back is still one of my fondest musical memories. Yes, this is my annual Ark lament post.

I'm gonna back-burner this for a while, I think. There's so much new stuff out there, I just can't get all that excited for this.

It doesn't help that the bass is buried in the mix - at least on Spotify. Bass is always a big draw for me, and that goes double for SW...

VOLA - Applause of a Distant Crowd

It's out as of today! Sounds good so far. I have no idea how these guys manage to sound this huge, but they do. Also, so far anyway, the riffing isn't djenty like the last disc. https://volaband.bandcamp.com/ EDIT: Okay, the heavy guitars are still there, but used in a slightly different way, maybe?

Don't know how much I'd listen to it, but it does have a nice vibe going on and seems pretty accomplished for a debut.

I think I'm coming around on 8-string guitars as long as they're used in the context of a melodic song and not used for straight-up chunking. You Will Know My Name is a perfect example of where they don't run roughshod over the song.

I feel like the dumbest person in the room. I think a long time ago I listened to Phlegethon once and decided the band wasn't for me - I was probably distracted at the time. Re: MICHAEL ROMEO - War Of The Worlds Pt. 1

Symphony X was always a band that I loved but only listened to every now and then - they've never been a band to *consume* my listening time over a given period of time. Having said that, this disc is in continual rotation. I don't think there's a note out of place on the whole thing. For this style...

It's funny - when this band goes Djent, they go full-on, but it's not nearly as frequent as initial listens would imply. This is still the band that made Chain Reaction. They melodies are still there, and while maybe not *quite* as accessible as the last album, all the ingredients remain largely unc...

FWIW, Arjen told me on Facebook that he had to remix for the 5.1 and instrumental releases. The stereo mix just comes along for the ride.
