Rush Concerts

Repost from Facebook for those that will miss it there. How about you? As I was reading a thread on a progressive rock forum mourning end end of my favorite band Rush, I realized I could never remember how many times I got to see them live. So I finally decided to take the time to try and figure it ...

Re: Death of CD's finally?...

It is kind of sad, but I haven't looked at CDs in a Best Buy in many, many years. So this doesn't really impact me. I still prefer physical CDs if they are available for a reasonable price at Laser's Edge or Amazon. In the past I didn't buy many digital only releases, just waited for a real CD. Howe...

Great review Matt. Now that I have the CD I went back and read it. Pretty much agree with it all I think.

Re: Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs - full review

This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I didn't listen to any samples or read any reviews because I wanted to digest the entire CD without any pre-conceived notions. I did see the mention of it being better than Mabool, but I didn't want to read the whole review until I heard it m...

Re: Kingcrow - The Persistence

This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I actually pre-ordered it from the band what seems like an eternity ago. I guess they're shopping it around to labels so we won't know a release date until they select a lable.

Re: My Top 10+ of 2017

Looking at all these lists, I'm beginning to think that I must have missed something with Daydream XI...it is very good, better than good in places but I just wasn't sold enough for it to break into my top 30. I think I wanted more in the melody department, or at least for the melodies to speak to ...

CYDEMIND / Erosion - I rarely listen to instrumentals much less put one on my best of list....... Joseph Magazine may have been the last one I put on a list. Glenn is usually on the hunt for awesome instruementals and I'm lucky to have him pointing out the best of the best (for my taste). While Wid...

Guy -- While you're at it - check out a band called The Watch. An Italian band I believe, that is a spitting image of early Genesis. I've been to many Nearfests, but The Watch was one of those bands that stick out in my mind ...... amazing show and quality. Add them to your list at some point. Than...

Re: Random end-of-year thoughts

No, it's not a top 10 or even necessarily related to this year... 1. How *insanely* great is Shadow Gallery? I mean, remember when there was some speculation that they might record at slower speeds and speed it up later? THAT'S how fantastic these guys are ability-wise. So true. Couldn't agree with...

Digital Man's Top 10 Of 2017

I think this is the first year I've felt the need to post a disclaimer or explanation about my top 10 list. While I've always liked some prog rock, over the last few years I've really been getting into it more. I have collected a lot of prog rock over the years, but until recently I'd listen to each...

Re: TARJA to release a Christmas disc ..............

I'll tell you, I haven't heard a note of this and have no interest at all. I barely tolerate Christmas music and certainly wouldn't voluntarily listen to it. Even Tarja couldn't possibly make the worst Christmas song of all times, Feliz Navidad, appealing to me. Yes I know, Bah Humbug.

Re: PM: Continuum FB Group

I've been having a lot of fun with the FB group. I can't believe how many old PMers we haven't heard from in years are on there. I don't think it will ever replace the PM forums, just complement them. I resisted FB for a long time, partially because I didn't understand how it works. I eventually gav...

Re: Daydream XI / The Circus of the Tattered and Torn......

The singer is a big draw for me. I really like his tone and delivery. I look forward to seeing these guys. Sunburst was number one on my list this year, but these guys have the potential to soften the blow a bit in their absence. You're coming to PP? Cool! We'll have to introduce you to the Room Of...

I really hope Fates does another leg of this tour and hits Colorado. I'd love to see them again. They blew me away at PP. I regret missing their last stop in Colorado but it was the day before a new project at work arrived.

Re: So is anyone else in a musical rut this year besides me ?

Yep, I'm in a prog metal rut as well. I'm not sure if it's the lack of top shelf releases or me or both. I always go through cycles of burn out on a particular style and just explore other styles until it passes. I've always kind of liked prog rock, but it never got any serious listening time becaus...

Re: I "might" have to go digital soon .... need some ideas.

The only thing I want to add is how important it is to have an off site backup of your collection. A few years ago a forest fire was headed towards our house while we were out of state on vacation. Luckily they stopped it with a bulldozer line about 40 paces right behind my house. We had friends try...

My CD collection is too important to me to get rid of. Even though the majority of my listening is digital now, I still like to have the physical CD in my collection. I don't think I could ever get rid of my collection. My tastes are always changing and the way I experience a disk can be completely ...

Re: Happy Anniversary to us !!!! Well, sort of ......

In high school & college in the 80's, all my friends were metalheads so I learned about new music from friends or Headbanger's Ball. In 1990 I graduated, got married to a non-metalhead and moved to a new city where the only person I knew was my wife. I was pretty lost music wise in the early 90...

I voted physical, but the large majority of my listening time is now digital. I love having the physical CD. If I don't own the physical CD, it doesn't feel like I own the music to me. To me, MP3s are for sampling new bands and releases and for portable listening to things I own on CD. I prefer to b...
